We are delighted to be able to announce the 2017 season Historic Guided walk dates.

A unique opportunity to tour the town of Rye with local historian David Hopkins.

The story of a seafaring port & town: Tudor boom, bust and plague, 18th- century smuggling & much more…..

Meet at Rye Heritage Centre at 11.00. Your tour starts with a viewing of our ‘Story of Rye’ Town Model sound and light show.

Following the show you will be met by David Hopkins, who will take you to explore Rye and reveal in more depth the fascinating                                            history of our town.

2017 season dates are as follows:

Saturday 30th September


Tours last approximately 2 hours, and tickets are priced at £10 per adult/£7.50 per child.

Guided Ghost Walks Around Rye

A unique opportunity to visit the locations of Rye’s hauntings, ghostly sightings, paranormal activity and the unexplained with our guided ghost walks.

Please contact the Heritage Centre for further information.  Pre-booking is essential as spaces for these tours are limited.  The cost is £13.00 per person (please note that these tours are unsuitable for children under 14 years of age).

The package includes The Story of Rye – Sound & Light Show and playing the Old Pier Machines.  The actual tour lasts for approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes which includes spending time in the Ypres Tower (if you dare!) as featured in the popular TV series ‘Great British Ghosts’.  There are no theatricals involved in the ghost tour, you make up your own mind.

The 2017/18 Ghost Tours will recommence October 2017

John Sergeant at The Heritage Centre

Broadcaster and journalist John Sergeant visited The Heritage Centre today, 15th September 2011, to film the Rye Town Model as part of a new series,’ Britains First Photo Album’, to be aired on BBC 2 commencing 12th March 2012 at 6:30pm. The series runs over a two week period. So watch out for Rye which will be broadcast on Wednesday 14th March.

Heritage Centre News


Michaela Strachan visited Rye in early August 2011 filming for a programme to be broadcast on YESTERDAY TV channel on Friday 28th October 2011 at 9pm called “Great British Ghosts”. Michaela was given a night time guided tour of the town by the Heritage Centre Ghost Tour Guide, ending up in the Ypres Tower which is featured heavily in the  Heritage Centre Ghost Tours that run from October to February.
