Walk in the footsteps of history

Rye Town Tours

Explore the rich history and secrets of Rye as you make your way along the cobbled streets and secret passageways by your expert guide. Tours change depending on the season and are bookable online. We run a series of talks and walking tours that focus on some of the many interesting parts of history, ghost author, myths and legends.

Walking Tour Information

Tours depart from outside Rye Heritage Centre (Just look for the big anchor ///begin.splashes.arrive). Please arrive 5-10 minutes before the tour time with your physical or e-tieket (printed or on your phone). Selected tours may include a small portion inside using the model.

What to wear

Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes and be sure to dress for the English Climate, i.e. on a sunny day bring an umbrella, just in case. Most tours will include sections on the cobbled streets and small passageways.

Do you limit group sizes?
Yes, we do limit numbers to ensure that all visitors can see, hear and enjoy a 5 star experience!

Our capacity on all tours to 20/25 people to give a better experience. Occasionally, we may limit these numbers further depending on the content of the tour.

Is this suitable for those with mobility issues?
Rye’s terrain is not suitable for guided walks for those who have mobility issues or need to use mobility scooters or wheelchairs – if you would like further details or to discuss alternatives, please contact us.

Can I take photos?
Photography/Videography for personal enjoyment is encouraged. Please share on social and tag #RyeHeritage.

We do have a few guidelines we ask all our visitors to follow. Don’t use flash or video lights and tripods are not practical. We ask you don’t share video clips of more than 60 seconds so others can enjoy our tours.

Can I just turn up and pay cash before the tour?
Small groups means tickets are limited so please book in advance to avoid disappointment. You can book on the day if we have availability in the Centre but booking online is always recommended.

What happens if my group number changes?
We assume the number in your group is the number you originally negotiated unless you contact us to make a change.

If the number in your group changes, you must notify us 14 days in advance. If you fail to do this you are liable for the original amount stated.

Sometimes some of your friends/colleagues may ask to join the group at the last minute. Please get them to book online to see if we have the availability requested.
