Our new interactive walk through multimedia experience presents a fun opportunity to hear about the smugglers of Rye and their illicit trade.
Known locally as Owlers, gangs of men and women were widely engaged in importing and exporting whilst evading the customs dues and being hunted down by the revenue men.
It’s now your chance to see and hear them up to no good, just as you might’ve done just a few hundred years ago.

This is a free attraction, but you are encouraged to make a voluntary donation.
Whilst the ground floor of the Heritage Centre is accessible, this experience is located on the 1st floor and only accessible by stairs.
The experience includes special effects and may not be suitable for those who are triggered or affected by strong smells, low lighting, flashing lighting effects, loud noises and mild peril.
Maximum of 4 persons for each show duration (4-5 minutes).
