Access

Rye Heritage Centre warmly welcomes all visitors to enjoy a memorable experience exploring the history and charm of Rye.

Our ground floor, home to the gift shop, vintage penny arcade, and the Town Model, offers level access throughout and is fully wheelchair-friendly.

Please note that the upper floor is currently accessible only via a wide staircase.

The Town Model show can accommodate up to two small wheelchairs per performance.

Assistance and guide dogs are always welcome. For their comfort, we recommend they remain by the welcome desk during our WWII: Rye’s Story and Rye After Dark shows, as these include loud sound effects and sudden lighting changes.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome in the building and to the Story of Rye on a short lead. Other shows are not suitable for dogs.

Accessibility features include subtitles on The Story of Rye, as well as a hearing loop system available for all shows and at the welcome desk.

Some shows feature loud noises, flashing lights, and visual effects, which may not be suitable for visitors sensitive to these stimuli.

Things To Note

Children aged 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult at all times during their visit.

Please note that tickets are non‑refundable, though The Story of Rye tickets remain valid for 14 days from the date of purchase (subject to opening hours, performance schedules, and availability).

During busy periods, there may be a short wait for the next available showing; typically no more than 30 minutes. The final performance of The Story of Rye usually begins 25 minutes before closing time.

Our shows feature flashing lights, sound effects, and other sensory elements, which may not be suitable for all visitors. Children under 5 may find certain visual scenes unsettling; if you’re unsure, please speak with a member of our friendly team before booking or attending a show.
