Officially opened on Good Friday, 29th March, 11 am – our new walk through multimedia experience presents a fun opportunity to hear about the smugglers of Rye and their illicit trade. Known locally as Owlers, gangs of men and women were widely engaged in importing and exporting whilst evading the customs dues and being hunted down by the revenue men. See and hear them up to no good, just as you might’ve done just a few hundred years ago!
The day was brought to life with Owlers patrolling the streets of rye and the town crier welcoming our esteemed guest.
